Can you destiffen/lessen the stiffness of a golf shaft?
Well, Im 16, play to a 5, and drive the ball around 250, maybe a bit more. Anyways, I currently use a HiBore 10.5 w/ Graffaloy blue (Reg flex, but 65or75 grams, i forget) and about 6 months ago my friend was getting rid of his 905r so i bought it off him for super cheap, but it was a stiff flex. Its a UST Proforce V2 (S, 76g, 2.2 torque). Is there a way to lessen the stiffness of it (perhaps soak it in something) or should I just bulk up and swing faster?
yes, i like to play a draw. Thats why i use a heavy reg shaft
the grafalloy has more tourque , softer tip . the ust stiff tip , less tourque , two different shafts altoghter , the ust will give you lower launch , lower flight . the grafalloy more height . more carry . both shafts should be .350 tips , shaft swap will work . the ust is not the proper shaft for everybody . your swing will let you know when to change , when the clevland starts high hooks time to change to other driver , also this time of year the air is heavy so you will not be getting accurate feedback due to density of air you will loose distance , dont try to swing faster , you have a great driver that has the wrong shaft for now , 3 months from now time to go to back up . and i will buy the clevland . plus i have 80 plus wedges , if your short . dont change anything . time will be soon

Everyone has a comfortable tempo and swing speed. The flex and Torque of the shaft must match that. Don’t change your speed to match your shaft or you will run into new problems. Remember it might not just be the flex. If torque is to high the club face is left open. If you swing harder that may happen and you start pushing the ball right. I think you said the new shaft torque is 2.2 and that is very low. That is a tour torque number. 3.0 to 3.5 is right for me at a swing speed of 100-105mph and tempo of 1.2 to 1.5. Even though some people swing hard they dont increase their swing speed if the flex of the shaft does not match. The shaft never has a chance to flex foward through hitting area which increases the speed. Therefore, you want the shaft to (flex) foward [with flex matching swing speed] and the face of the club square, or slightly inside for a draw [which it will do as long as the torque is not too high].
